Pollen Pollen is worse on
dry windy days and decreases after a rain. The levels of pollen
are highest in the late evening and early morning. Plan your outside
activities accordingly and stay indoors as much as possible during
the heavy spring and fall pollen seasons.
Keep your windows closed in your home and car during pollen seasons.
Pets will have pollen on their fur and while frequent bathing of
the pet is helpful, avoidance of contact is more practical for most
people.
Although wind can carry pollen thousands of miles, keeping your
property free of weeds reduces the concentration of your exposure.
Wear a dust/pollen mask when working outside.
An antihistamine taken one hour prior to outside exposure will
often prevent symptoms.
Use nasal saline spray at least twice a day to wash off debris.
Spray each nostril, blow nose and repeat. You may purchase nasal
saline solution from a pharmacy or make your own FRESH EACH DAY
by adding 1/8 teaspoon of salt to four ounces of water and placing
in an empty clean spray bottle. This must be mixed fresh each day
to prevent bacterial growth, if making solution at home. |
